"What were two points from this week's reading that stood out to you as particularly important and/or interesting?"
"Why so?"
The role that cultural taste has on social relationships is considered interesting to me. Our social background has a significant impact on what we like and dislike. In this way, taste goes beyond simple personal preference to place us in the social hierarchy (Bourdieu, cited in van Krieken et al. 2014). It is quite mesmerizing that what we consider enjoyable can make society put you in a social order in their classifications.
Another point that piqued my interest is the concept of cultural capital. Bourdieu (1986) suggested three types of cultural capital: embodied, objectified, and institutionalised. Cultural capital can also be passed from person to person simply by sharing their likes and dislikes or by going to the movies or galleries (Bourdieu, cited in Cairns 2019)

"What is your current favorite television show?"
My current favorite television show is "The Good Doctor."

"What is it about it that makes it 'good'?"
"The Good Doctor" is "good" because not only were viewers educated on complex medical knowledge but they also learned about the characters' lives, struggles, and accomplishments. Furthermore, the show is praised for its representation. The doctors at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital are all from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and they also have their own set of qualities that set them apart from the world (Misasi 2018).

"Why do you like it?"
I like the show because of its lack of overly dramatic plot points. It never aims for the shock or wow factor since its storylines are compelling and intriguing enough to keep us on the edge of our seats. Additionally, "unlike many hierarchy-driven work environments, the doctors and interns are on an equal footing" (Misasi 2018).

"Is there a context where it would be considered 'good taste' and another where it would be considered 'bad taste'? Give specific examples"
Good taste:
An example of context considered "good taste" is in season 1 episode 10 when Dr. Browne (played by Antonia Thomas) (IMDb n.d.) experienced sexual harassment by a superior colleague. She then said "I do that, and I get labeled hostile and difficult, neither of which work with my complexion or gender," regarding elaborating on the situation to HR (Smith 2017) as she didn't want to be seen as the angry black woman, addressing a stereotype to control and undermine black women (Nolan 2021) and how not to solve it.

Bad taste:
A "bad taste" moment is the way the main character is portrayed. The autistic Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) (IMDb n.d.) with nearly perfect recall, a photographic memory, and savant-like diagnostic skills exists to enlighten his neurotypical peers. While the show has reduced stigma, there are still many inaccuracies, such as not all autistic people are savants, like those who need round-the-clock care in group homes or assistance from home health aides, face significant obstacles to self-advocacy, and are marginalized from society or how When autism is portrayed in movies and on television in a way that makes neurotypical people associate it with white men, leaving women and people of color out of the picture (Duan, Pozios & Kambam 2018).
